Phalaenopsis Growers Manual

America's Favorite Orchid

Phalaenopsis are the easiest and most rewarding orchids to grow. Phalaenopsis thrive at indoor environment. It is particularly well suited for the condition that you already find at home.

FLOWERING: Flowers of the Phalaenopsis Orchid have superb longevity. They open sequentially at 4-7 day intervals along an arching spike. Individual blooms can last as long as 3 months. For the time that the first flower bud opens, the sprays will remain in bloom for 3-6 months or longer. Remember to not get any water on the flowers.

WATER: They should be watered thoroughly and then not again until the moss media is nearly, but not completely, dry. This way, your phalaenopsis stay moist and the root not rot due to over watering. With our tight moss media, depend on the temperature and humidity, once every 7-20 days is recommended. Avoid splash ater on the leaves.

LIGHT: Phalaenopsis will flourish indoors under normal lighting conditions, with indirect sunlight most advantageous. Caution should be used when placing a Phalaenopsis in direct sunlight to the fact that its leaves burn easily from too much exposure to the sun.

TEMPERATURE: Phalaenopsis enjoy much the same temperature range as we do, the ideal temperatures range between 55¡ã and 85 ¡ãF. For ideal growing try to maintain 60¡ã- 65¡ã Fat night and between 75¡ã and 80¡ã during the day. Occasional deviations will not harm your plant, except when it is in bud, chill temperatures may cause unopened bud to drop off.

PRUNING: When the last flower drops,  cut the spike one inch from the base of the plant. After months of recovery, cool nighttime temperatures in the fall, 50¡ã-55¡ãF, encourage flower spike initiation. Once the flower spike is developed, bring it back to the normal growing environment.

HUMIDITY: Phalaenopsis enjoy moist air, with a humidity level of 55-75%. Placing your plant over a tray or dish of water can increase moisture. Separate the pot and tray with pebbles of small stones to raise the height of your plant and ensure that it does not sit directlly in the water.

FERTILIZER: Less is more or not required.

REPOTTING  Not in two years.
